Grades 4-9 Programs

Welcome to Quesnel Online Learning (QOL) for Grades 4–9.

Our Grades 4–9 program is designed for students who are ready to begin working more independently, with the support of both their family and a dedicated teacher. Whether your child is supplementing in-person schooling or learning fully online, we work together to build a program that fits their needs.

How the Program Works

Planning the Program

Students and parents work closely with the teacher to design a personalized learning plan.

Together, we consider questions such as:

  • Which subjects will the student focus on?
  • How will learning be organized throughout the day or week?
  • What physical activity and movement options are part of the routine?
  • Are there areas where the student excels or needs extra support?

Learning at Home

Students receive the resources and materials they need and work from home using a teacher-developed timeline to help them stay on track.

A key part of the program is learning to communicate. Students are encouraged to reach out to their teacher whenever they have questions or need support.

Teacher Support & Check-Ins

Students and parents meet face-to-face with the teacher at least once per month. These meetings are used to:

  • Review student progress
  • Adjust learning plans and timelines
  • Refine educational goals
  • Explore learning options and next steps

Additional contact and support occur as needed throughout the month.

Parent Role & Responsibilities

At the Grades 4–9 level, parent involvement is essential. The parent’s role is one of support and encouragement.

This includes:

  • Helping create an inviting, distraction-free workspace
(Learning on the couch in front of the TV is not a recipe for success.)

  • Checking in regularly to ensure the student is keeping up with their timeline

  • Supporting communication with the teacher, especially when students are reluctant to ask questions

  • Encouraging daily movement and physical activity, including time outdoors or extracurricular involvement

  • Attending monthly meetings with the teacher (at a minimum)

Curriculum & Learning

  • All courses follow the BC Ministry of Education curriculum
  • Students work at an appropriate pace while maintaining accountability
  • Learning is structured, supported, and personalized
